The best and worst foods for your liver

Friday, April 1, 2022 4:11 PM

The liver is such an important organ and helps with everything from skin health to digestion and even helps deal with chemicles we come into contact with.  Many patients ask me what the best liver foods are so I wanted to write what is good, and also not so good for the liver.  This article from eat this not that links a study that shows how liquid fructose may be one of the worst foods for the liver.  I am pretty sure that alcohol is worse, so here is an article about that and a study that shows what it does to the heart.  Liquid fructose is a calm way of saying soft drinks due to thier High Fructose Corn Syrup contents. So if you watch this commercial that promots corn syrup as a healty option, imagine having that article in hand when someone says, so what did you read about corn syrup 😂.  Also I have more information about the benefits of having less sugar on an earlier post that goes over the issues with sugar on overall health.

So with the foods not to eat out of the way lets look at the foods to eat for the liver.  This article gives information on each of these foods, but here is the list:

  • Coffee
  • Oatmeal
  • Green Tea
  • Garlic
  • Berries
  • Grapes
  • Grapefruit
  • Prickly Pear
  • Plant foods in general (avocados, banannas, barley, beets and beet juice, broccoli, brown rice, carrots, figs, Kale and collords, and lemons)
  • Fatty Fish
  • Nuts
